The Assouline Villa Treville Positano Book opens the gates of one of the Amalfi Coast's most guarded retreats — a cliffside estate above the Tyrrhenian Sea that began as a duchess's hideaway, became Franco Zeffirelli's private “dream world” in the 1960s, and opened as a hotel in 2009. Zeffirelli furnished it like one of his own productions, with props from La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera set among his antiques.

Travel journalist Nicky Swallow and current owner Govind Friedland trace what came before and after: eighteen levels of terraced gardens, hidden pools, a beach club, the Dr. Barbara Sturm spa, and the restored Salone Bianco now serving as the Bianca Bar. Rare archival images place Coco Chanel, Maria Callas, Rudolf Nureyev, and Elizabeth Taylor on the same terraces. The cover is deeply debossed to echo the texture of Italian ceramic tile — a tactile finish worth handling in person.
