American Needle at CHROME

A hundred-plus hats: the Roscoe golf hat for Coors, Miller Lite and Coke, the Archibald in Coors, Smokey Bear and a Willie Nelson floral, the Buxton Pro, the Canvas Cappy in wheat and army, the Coors Mallard foam trucker, the Willie Nelson Sinclair snapback and the Jack Daniel's Wrangler. Then the tees — Willie Nelson For President and the Willie Nelson mineral tee, the Miller High Life and Bronco Burton pocket tees, the Bronco Red Label — the Original Coors Sunday fleece crew in hazel, beanies, and a few button-ups and polos. Tees and fleece run S to XXL, most pieces are under $40, and the collection shows only what's in stock.

American Needle started in Chicago in 1918 importing sewing needles, moved into making hats, and in 1946 talked the Chicago Cubs into selling fan caps. The first batch sold out, and decades of licensed headwear followed. It's still family-owned, now in its fourth generation. The look here is the vintage one: washed cotton, faded color and distressed screen prints on the beer, whiskey and outlaw-country logos.

Fit: each product page names the closure and the cut, and wins over any rule here. See men's hats for Melin alongside, Daydreamer for the band-tee side, and men's for Faherty and Marine Layer.

Questions we get about American Needle

Did American Needle make the first licensed ballcaps?

It made its first licensed caps for the Chicago Cubs in 1946 and has been making licensed headwear ever since.

What's the vintage wash?

The tees are washed for a soft, broken-in hand and printed with distressed screen prints, so they look years old on the first wear.
